Hurricane Idalia Strengthening Rapidly

Hurricane Idalia strengthening quickly on approach to the Florida Big Bend.

Overnight, Idalia has managed to wrap convection around the northern side of the eye. This has allowed for strengthening to continue this afternoon. We should continue to see more convection wrap around the center of the storm and further strengthening is likely until landfall. You can see this ocurring right now on the radar shot below.

Track and Impacts

Idalia will make landfall tomorrow (Wednesday) morning in the big bend area. Thankfully this stretch of coastline is fairly rural. Winds will pack a punch up into Georgia on Wednesday.

Rainfall main story for the Carolinas

Rain will be the theme this week as Idalia moves north. Expect breezy and rainy conditions Wednesday and Thursday as Idalia moves through. Many of these areas need rainfall so this will be great for that! Wind wont be much of an issue but the coastal areas will see some higher winds. Winds will gust into the 30s at times across the Carolinas with some 40s possible along the coast.

Overall be ready for a rainy Wednesday/Thursday and some trash cans blowing around outside!
