WINTER STORM TOMORROW: A map of where snow may fall!

****This post will be geared toward actual amounts and areas that will see snow. These are OUR OWN thoughts***

Storm Overview

Timing: Snow arrives in Western NC Thursday morning and will slowly push through most of NC over the afternoon and evening.

This has turned into a daytime snow storm! That is not extremely common for a lot of NC outside of the mountains.

Below you can see a current image of our storm beginning to take shape. That dark red circle is where our moisture is building. This area will expand and push to the east slowly today. Everything this morning appears to be on track as models predicted. It is always important to monitor the progress of actual events to make sure everything is going as predicted.

Snowfall Map

THIS IS PRELIMINARY. This map simply shows the areas that should see snow. We will publish an amount forecast with an update this evening.

We are only 24-30 hours away from this event but there is still a lot of uncertainty as far as snowfall is concerned. We have decided to not forecast specific amounts just yet. Instead, we have created a map that show where the best chance of snow will be!

Key:

Dark Blue/Purple: Best chance of accumulating snow will be in these areas. Chance of a fairly significant event.

Cities included: Raleigh, Greenville, Greensboro, Rocky Mount.

Light Blue: Lighter snowfall will be in these areas. Mixing of sleet/rain will occur down into SC

Pink: This area is the “battle ground.” expect a mixture of snow/sleet.

The further north you are the more snow. The further south you are the more sleet and even rain. (Notice the purple overlaps with other layers!)

Green: This area will see mostly rain. There could be some mixing at times and the back edge of precip could end as a quick shot of snow.

Key Points:

There is going to be snowfall across NC tomorrow! We are still trying to work out amounts but those dark blue areas have a shot at a decent event (the 3-5inch range may be possible).

We will go to a shorter style of post and more often as we get closer!

A main key to keep an eye on is the warm nose. The 3km NAM excels at this feature and continues pushing the warm nose north. We will provide further updates and adjust as necessary.

Update Schedule:

9:30-10:30PM: Snowfall map with amounts. It is a busy day for us. we will try to have this published as early as possible :)
