BACK END OF SUMMER!

We are past “peak” summer.

You have probably noticed by now but the high temperatures are not nearly as brutal as they were several weeks ago. We have survived through the typical heatwave in mid-late July and are now looking at the last weeks of summer!

Here is a very cool chart showing the average High and low temps for Greenville, NC.

Photo is from weatherspark.com.

You can see that the “peak” of summer is mid to late July. We have passed that and are now slowly cooling down toward fall. The weather will not really begin to cool until September. You can see on the graph that September is when we begin the plunge toward cooler weather!

So all you fall lovers do not worry it is coming!

Stormy days this week

While temps will still be warm they will not be unbearable. We still have several days touching 90 for many areas left but nothing like earlier this year.

The warmest day this week for us in NC and SC will be tomorrow (Tuesday).

There will be a few more days touching 90 but the heat will not be as widespread as it is tomorrow.

Wednesday a weak front will move through and stall just off the coast of the US. This front will increase the chance of thunderstorms especially for coastal areas Wednesday-Friday.

Here is the GFS forecasted rainfall for the next 5 days. Notice how the focus is over Eastern sections of NC and SC.

These afternoon thunderstorms could briefly be severe but there is no major concern for severe weather this week..

Quiet Tropics

The tropics remain very quiet as we head into the “heart” of hurricane season. August-October is the normal peak of the season.

Right now the models are continuing the suppressed look in the Atlantic for a couple more weeks. Toward late August we could see the Atlantic become more favorable for development but until then chances for a tropical system are very low.

There is a very very small chance that this stalled front off the coast could cause a weak “homegrown” storm sometime late NEXT week but the chance is near 0% right now.

Enjoy the more pleasant weather! The atmosphere in the Northern Hemisphere is slowly transitioning away from the summer pattern and toward fall but there are still several warm weeks left to go!
